The Spear of Ares [on hold]

Chapter 1

Let me go head and set the record straight. I did not plan on destroying that supermarket today. It wasn't in my demigod agenda. It was most definitely not on my Top 10 Things To-Do List either.

Then again, neither were the many other things I destroyed either. I was hoping today would be a normal day and I would be able to do some shopping without being disturbed. All was fine until the Chimera showed up.

The fight went along great. I destroyed the thing in ten minutes. Of course, I wrecked the store in the process and when the police showed up, my excuse of "There was a Chimera in the store!" was not valid in their books. I grabbed my groceries and hauled butt outta there. I didn't stop until I was at camp. Camp Half-Blood.

I guess I should go on and introduce myself before I go any further. My name's Zane Hero. I'm nineteen years old and a son of Hecate. My dad was killed in a car wreck when I was fifteen and that's about when Hecate showed up, she claimed me as her son and guided me to Camp Half-Blood. Chiron was happy to see me. Let's just say I caused a lot of trouble while I was in the mortal world.

"Zane!" A few of the younger kids squeal as they see me heading up the hill. I smile and set down my duffle bag.

"Hey!" I exclaim. I hold out my arms and brace myself for impact. I'm glad I did so.
Three of the kids ram into me and I almost go tumbling down the hill. If it weren't for me bracing myself, I would have. After I hug them, they stand up and seize my wrists. They start dragging me down to the Big House. I barely had enough time to snag my duffle bag.

As we reached the cabins, I saw nothing much had changed in the year that I was gone. The strawberry fields were still looking good, all the cabins were still intact, and the monsters could still stroll past the hill and into camp if we weren't on guard. It's the home I love.

When we reached the Big House, the ankle-biters (that's what Chiron calls them) squealed again and ran off to play, leaving me with an annoyed Mr. D and a some-what happy centaur. "Hello, Zane. Great to see you again." Chiron says. "Ah, Cane Zero." Mr. D grumbles. I clench my fists at my side and say, "It's Zane Hero, sir." Mr. D waves his hand lazily and just spits out a "Whatever."

Before I could pummel the god, Chiron clops over to me and grabs my shoulder. From anyone looking, it would seem like Chiron's grip wasn't that tight, but, it was as hard as steel. It was a restraining hold. "Zane, son, how about we walk down to the strawberry field, eh?" I had a strong feeling Chiron's request wasn't exactly a request, more of a demand disguised as a request.

The feeling was confirmed when I tried to pull away from Chiron, he tightened his grip and steered me away from the wine god. I also have a very strong feeling that I will have bruises on my shoulder.

"So, Zane. What did you destroy this time?" Chiron asks casually. I look down and almost trip on a loose tree root. "I... what... you know..." I stutter. Chiron chuckles. "Zane, you usually only show up at camp when you did something in the mortal world. Now, what did you do?"

I sigh. There was no getting out of this one. "I destroyed a supermarket," I begin. "But! In my defense, literally, it was the Chimera's fault." I add quickly as an afterthought. Chiron laughs. "Oh, Zane. What are we going to do with you?" I fix my bag and yawn. "Send me to Cabin Twenty to lie down and go to sleep?" I suggest thoughtfully.

"Hmm. Okay. Fine. Go." Chiron says, smiling. Grinning like an excited six-year-old, make my way to the Hecate cabin. The cabin glows green in the setting sun. It's pretty actually. I open the door and walk in. I'm immediately greeted by my five half-siblings. "Hey, Zane!" They all yell. I grin my hellos and shuffle over to my bed. I throw my bag at my feet and lie down. I curl up and I'm asleep in five minutes.

When I wake up, I'm not in Cabin Twenty.

Notes

Hey guys! So, this story is kinda like a prequel to Redemption. I don't know how else to put it...
