Child of Athena

XX

"Don't stand up yet. Just lay there for a second." A pair of blue eyes peered down at Sophie. She was confused. The last thing Sophie remembered was Reyna saying she had to add something to a list.
Reyna's familiar face appeared. "Sophie? Do you remember anything I said before you fainted?"
Sophie awkwardly shook her head, still laying on the cool floor of the back room in the general store. "The last thing I remember is you telling me adding another broken oath to the list was my fault."
"Okay. Sit up." An unrecognizable voice directed. Sophie placed her elbows on the ground and sat up. Crouching next to her was Reyna and a young kid with blue eyes, blonde hair, and a first aid kit.
"This is Gregory, son of Apollo. He was in the general store when you fainted, so when I called for a medic, he came running." Reyna explained. "You can leave now, Greg."
The kid pouted, but obliged. "Why did I even faint?" Sophie asked, curious.
Reyna sighed. "I told you some traumatic news. I'm guessing you forgot that part." All of a sudden, it hit her faster than Zeus's lightning bolts. A memory flooded back.
Sophie’s brow furrowed. She was puzzled. Reyna had just mentioned that she needed to add another broken oath to Athena's name. “What? Why?” She burst out.
Reyna sighed. “You.”
One simple word. Sophie staggered back into a wall. “M...me?”
“Yes. I have multiple reasons to believe that you, Sophie Wise, are a daughter of Minerva, not Athena."
Sophie began to stutter. "That-that's impossible. I was claimed by Athena."
"For your own protection." Reyna matter-of-factly stated, as if that explained it all. "Think about it.
Eternal vows will not be kept." She recited a line of the prophecy. "You're different from the rest of the Greeks. You want order, and I can't help but feel that you just resent us Romans the slightest bit."
Sophie nodded. "Well, obviously. Romans replaced my mother as the goddess of war with Bellona-"
"My mother. My mother, Bellona."
Sophie's face flushed, but she continued to rant. "You think of my mother as only the goddess of crafts. Hell, when you first met Annabeth, you were shocked she was a daughter of Athena. Yes, a goddess of wisdom can be a mother.
You don't know that I'm actually a true daughter of Minerva. It would not be wise of Minerva. She is the wisest Roman goddess, and a virgin goddess having a child would either be too cliche or create an uprising. If I'm actually a daughter of Minerva, may...may...may the broken oath of virginity automatically written in that book." Sophie finished off, out of breath.
In a split second, in the large book, someone from the heavens above scribbled in it. Reyna smugly smirked. "I guess you are a Roman demigod."

Sophie felt sick to her stomach. She wasn't a child of Athena. She was the sole child of Minerva.

Notes

Surprise! Anyways, here it's pretty late at night, but I don't care. I need to get another chapter in before Sunday ends and I have to suffer another six full days without touching my fanfictions and this website. But don't worry. On April fifth, Lent will be over and I'll be free to do whatever I want. Happy international women's day, have a good week, and see you next Sunday.
