Child of Athena

XIX

Reyna led Sophie to the border between Camp Jupiter and New Rome. “Hello, Terminus. Here are my weapons.” Reyna placed her knife on a platter held by a small smiling girl.
The top part of a man with no arms appeared above a stone post. “Thank you, Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano. If you don’t mind, could you move the rock to my left over exactly one inch?” The praetor obliged and shifted one of the boundary rocks over. “And you, visitor. Do you have any weapons?”
Sophie gripped her dagger in her pocket. “Will I get it back?” She hesitantly asked. Sophie couldn’t just give up her only way of self defense.
“Yes, don’t worry. We take care of these things.” Terminus assured her. Sophie handed over her Celestial Bronze dagger.
Reyna led her inside New Rome and brought her to a building with a blue awning. “This is the general store. I need to show you something.”
Sophie followed her inside and Reyna led her to the back room. “Diana, Vestia, Minerva. Three Roman maiden goddesses sworn to never have demigod children. Of course, Minerva’s Greek counterpart doesn’t take that oath quite as seriously.”
Sophie nodded, understanding. If she hadn’t been born from Athena’s head, Sophie wouldn’t be alive. Reyna swung open a camouflaged door that led to a room that looked like it was a shrine to all the gods. Why would the Romans keep this hidden?
Reyna opened up a thick book larger than an encyclopedia, and she flipped to a certain page. “This.” She pointed to a paragraph titled “Broken oaths”.
Sophie skimmed through it. The page mentioned all the oaths and pacts that were broken by gods and goddesses. After the name of each god there was a lengthy list. For example, Zeus/Jupiter had too many to count. Two of Zeus’s were Thalia and Jason Grace.
Sophie found her mother’s name. Athena/Minerva barely had broken any oaths. “I need to add another to your mother’s list.”
Sophie’s brow furrowed. “What? Why?” She burst out.
Reyna sighed. “You.”
One simple word. Sophie staggered back into a wall. “M...me?”
“Yes.” Next thing Sophie knew, she woke up with a large headache.

Notes

Sorry I haven't been updating for twenty days, but for lent(since I am Catholic) I gave up working on my fanfics. Sundays are the only exception, but last sunday I was too busy to finish one whole chapter. Anyways, sorry this one is so short, but I'll update next week.
