Child of Athena

XVIII

Denise and Sophie gently awoke as they cruised down a California highway. "Woah, we're already near Camp Jupiter?" Denise asked, surprised.
"Luck's on my side." Carl grinned from the driver's seat, and Denise heard Blake grumble something about a father.
"Pull over!" Denise nearly screamed.
"What?"
"Why?" Chaos filled the vehicle.
"I... I recognize this place. Drop us off on the side of the road, now."
Carl's eyes shifted. "Leave you? I thought you wanted to go to the Underworld first."
Blake's eyes widened. "No." He demanded. "We've already put you through the trouble. Please, just drop us off." He pleaded.
"Alright." Carl gave in. "But if you need me, give this bone a snap, and I'll be there." He handed Sophie an old wishbone from the pocket of his jeans.
"Uh...thanks." Sophie placed the bone in her backpack and they rolled open the door.
They were nearly blinded by the Californian sun, and Carl sped off once they were all out. "This way. It's just a minute hike." Denise led them in the direction of the entrance.
There, two guards stood in their Roman armor, and Denise waved to them. “Do you know these two?” Blake asked.
Denise shrugged. “I recognize them. The girl’s Gwen, and the boy Dakota. I only stayed in New Rome for a few days.”
They headed up the hill and to the tunnel entrance. “Greeks?” The boy asked.
Sophie smiled. “How could you tell? The distinct facial features?”
“No, your shirts and necklaces. Plus, Chiron Iris Messaged us yesterday.” Sophie blushed, and they were welcomed into the camp.

“So, a daughter of Athena, son of Ares, and daughter of Melinoe are willing to step up and take on the prophecy?” Reyna questioned them. Denise was intimidated, but she kept quiet.
“Yes. I’ve looked over the prophecy multiple times. Here, I wrote it all down with notes.” Sophie handed Reyna a crumpled piece of paper from her pocket.
“I see. You’re free to begin your quest, but first you have to stay the night. I can tell you’ve gotten barely any sleep.”
Everyone gratefully smiled, and Frank Zhang led them to the baths. “Wait, Sophie.” Reyna gripped Sophie’s forearm. “I’d like to show you the architecture. I’ve learned that children of Athena seem to enjoy it.”
They strolled towards a lush garden alone, and Reyna looked back at Sophie. “You have gray eyes and blonde hair.” She commented.
“Yeah,” Sophie nodded, “children of Athena are known to have those features.”
“Oh, sorry.” Reyna apologized. “I’ve met your sister, Annabeth, and the physical similarities between you and her end there.”
Sophie’s brow furrowed. “What do you mean?”
Reyna sighed. “I’ve seen lots of Greek demigods. You, Sophie Wise, look Roman.”
She shook her head. “No. My mom’s Athena. I remembered when she claimed me. Plus, how would I be related to Malcolm then?”
“The Graces are Roman and Greek.” Reyna pointed out. Sophie shrugged. “I’m not saying that you are Roman, but the gleam in your eyes shows you’re interested. Follow me. I have something to show you.”

Notes

It never mentioned Malcolm's last name in the books, so I just made their last name Wise. Anyways, who's ready for Valentine's day? Sitting alone watching Netflix and eating chocolates is so funnn! Not.
