Child of Athena

IV

Sophie was heading towards the volleyball court with her friend, Mitchell, son of Aphrodite, when Malcolm sprinted up to her, his forehead beaded with sweat.
“Sophie,” he panted, catching his breath. “We have to go to the Big House, Chiron needs you.”
Me?” Usually Sophie wasn’t mentioned in a prophecy, she hadn’t even been on a quest yet. The most dangerous things she’d done away from all the other campers was fight off a deranged karpoi, and she ended up setting him on fire.
“C’mon.” Her brother urged her. Sophie glanced sideways at Mitchell.
“Sorry.” She sheepishly apologized. “Can we play another time?”
Mitchell grinned. “Sure. Divine prophecies can’t wait.” With another regretful look, Sophie followed her brother to the large blue house.
Chiron was pacing back and forth on the front porch, his hooves loudly thumping on the wooden floor. “Ah,” he muttered. “Malcolm, and..." He hesitated, forgetting her name.
She rolled her eyes. “Sophie.”
“Right.” Chiron murmured, and continued more confidently. “As you two know, a prophecy has been found. Since Annabeth’s heading towards New Rome as we speak, I would like your insight on this matter.”
Sophie nodded, understanding. Chiron sighed, and waved his hand through his hair. “Alright, here’s how it goes. The sun god made the first mistake, but not the last. Eternal vows will not be kept. Ghosts will haunt the third’s past. Forgotten wisdom shall take the final step."
Sophie pondered the prophecy. Not everything in the Syllabine Book was found at the correct time. She recalled the legend someone from Camp Jupiter had told her. Micheal Varus had thought a prophecy was for his time, and he had died.
"Forgotten wisdom. Our mother is known as the goddess of wisdom, but what does it mean by forgotten?" Malcolm pointed out, as he leaned against the porch rails, staring at the sky.
“You have a point. But, about the ghosts, we’ll have to ask Nico.” Chiron mussed.
“He’s visiting his sister in New Rome, with Annabeth, so we can Iris Message him.” Her brother suggested, as Sophie just stood there, not having any ideas.
Maybe by sun god, it meant Apollo, and how he made the mistake of trusting that augur, Octavian. There were also a lot of eternal vows, like the Hunters of Artemis, or Zeus and Hera’s marriage. Malcolm brought her back to reality, again. “Soph,” she really had to stop spacing out. “Go get the spray bottle and drachma inside.”
Sophie nodded and swung the front door to the Big House open. She grabbed the spray bottle filled with water and the golden godly currency. “Here.” She handed them to her brother.
He sprayed the water in the air and tossed the drachma. “Oh Iris, goddess of the rainbow, please accept my offering. Nico di Angelo, Camp Jupiter.”
The son of Hades’ face appeared in the mist, but his expression looked alarmed. “Malcolm?” He stared at them. In the background, Sophie could hear metal clanging. “Listen, this isn’t the best time. IM me later.” And with that, he ended their communication.
Sophie was confused. What just happened?
