Child of Athena

VI

Sophie waited impatiently as Malcolm used the bathroom. Since Nico was apparently too busy at the moment, her and Malcolm were just killing time.
She tilted her head to one side and played with her blonde hair. Blondes aren't meant to be dumb, she thought to herself, they're meant to be intimidating.
Mitchell was passing by the bathrooms. “Hey!” She called him over. “Mitchell!" He spun around to face her. He strolled over, grinning.
"Hi, brainiac." He teased.
"Shut up, love boy." Sophie loved their playful banter. Mitchell was one of the only kids at camp who actually took the time and got to know her well, maybe even better than Malcolm.
"So, what was the prophecy?" He asked.
"Just stuff about ghosts, sun gods, and wisdom. It didn't sound complete, though. We tried Iris Messaging Nico di Angelo to help with the ghost part, but he was busy."
Mitchell nodded. "Well, I have to head back to the cabin and help my sister, Lacy, with something. See you around." And with that short good bye, Mitchell headed towards his cabin.
"Bye." Sophie nearly stuttered. Other than knowing her well, Mitchell was one of the kids who fit in better, was adjusted, and had daring friends, like Piper Mclean. Sophie had to be careful. She needed to at least have some friends.
“Hey, was that just Mitchell?” Malcolm strolled out of the restroom.
“Yeah, he was just passing through. Let’s head back to the Big House.” Sophie led her brother back to the large building. “I think sun god means Apollo.” She suggested.
“Hmm.” Malcolm considered the idea. “It might.” The two siblings entered the Big House again.
Chiron was sitting in his wheelchair, muttering to himself. “Malcolm, Sophie.” He greeted them. “Have any more ideas? I’m going to Iris Message Nico in a moment.”
“Sun god could mean Apollo.” Malcolm offered, and Sophie glared at him. That was her idea.
“Good, good.” Chiron mumbled. He seemed to be distracted quite often nowadays, Sophie observed. “Malcolm,” he instructed, “grab the drachma and spray bottle.”
Malcolm sprayed the water in the air and tossed the drachma. “Oh Iris, goddess of the rainbow, please accept my offering. Nico di Angelo, Camp Jupiter.”
Success. The son of Hades appeared in a mist. "Hi. Sorry I was busy earlier. Demon." Nico apologized.
"Did Reyna tell you about the prophecy yet?" Chiron asked.
Nico nodded. "Yeah. One's foe is the other's friend. Battle scars will never mend. Dragon, owl, spirit shall meet. Sun will take its rightful seat."
The three gaped at him. "Nico," Malcolm paused for a moment, "we heard the other part of the prophecy."
"Other part?"
Chiron glanced at Sophie. "The sun god made the first mistake, but not the last. Eternal vows will not be kept. Ghosts will haunt the third’s past. Forgotten wisdom shall take the final step. Didn't Reyna tell you that?"
Nico gawked. "Is that why you wanted to IM me? The ghost part?"
Chiron slowly nodded. "Yes. Nico? Why do you look freaked out?"
Nico slowly blinked. "Nothing. I'll have Hazel IM you again, once I straighten this out."
"Wait." Sophie demanded. He was about to cut their connection. But it was too late. As the image disappeared, Sophie heard Nico muttering about a girl named Denise.
"Why does this always happen?" She grumbled.

Nico and Hazel had excused themselves after she had told them her name, and Denise was sitting in the room alone.
She looked around, and carefully stood up. Denise was still wearing her same clothes, and her hair was still in a bun. Good, she probably hadn't been out that long.
"So, Denise, did you dream about anything?" Hazel strolled into the room, smiling, but her eyes were full of hatred.
"Uh, yeah. My mom's Melinoe." Denise told her, shrinking back into the pillow.
"Nico." Hazel sharply called out. The pale dark haired boy peeked through the door frame.
"Yes?"
Hazel made an unreadable face. "Nico, Denise is a daughter of Melinoe."
Nico chuckled. "Hello, niece."
