Child of Athena

VII

Nico and Annabeth came back to camp in a few days. But the wait was agonizingly long for Sophie. She wasn’t the most patient demigod. That title was reserved for children of the goddess Irene.
When Nico shadow traveled them back, he brought a new camper. “She’s Greek, but she used to live in California, so she came to New Rome first.” Nico explained to Chiron, as Sophie overheard.
Her name was apparently Denise, and she was the daughter of Melinoe. Sophie recalled she was the only daughter of Persephone and Hades, and Melinoe was the goddess of ghosts.
“Hey Sophie, did you meet the new camper yet?” Cassidy asked her.
Sophie looked up at her half sister from her seat at the table in their cabin. “No, not yet. I hear she’s staying in the Hades cabin.”
Cassidy gasped. “Is she a daughter of the Big Three?”
Sophie bit her bottom lip. “I don’t think so. She’s a daughter of Melinoe, the first claimed one actually. Since Melinoe’s father is Hades and she doesn’t have her own cabin, the new camper’s going to stay there.”
“Oh.” Cassidy frowned, and walked away,
sulking.
Sophie smirked. Sometimes Cassidy got too excited for her own good.
She went back to her project, but as she did, she thought. Maybe the prophecy was her way out.

Denise was utterly confused. After waking up in Camp Jupiter, finding out her mom was a Greek goddess, learning her way around New Rome, and shadow traveling with Nico di Angelo, she couldn’t figure out where the Dining Pavilion was.
She was wandering around where the cabins were. Finally, a kid came out of the cabin that was red, and played loud music.
“Um, excuse me?” She called out to him. He had light brown haircut short and brown eyes. It seemed like he was scowling. “Where’s the Dining Pavilion?”
The boy faced her, and he looked about fourteen. “Yeah. Are you a new camper?” Denise just nodded. “I’m Blake, I’m heading to dinner anyways, so I’ll walk with you.”
Blake tried to make conversation. “So, who’s your godly parent?”
“Melinoe. You?”
He nodded. “Ares.”
Short and sweet, to the point. Denise liked conversations like that.
At the Dining Pavilion, she grabbed her food, and learned how to give scraps of food to the gods. She scraped off the best part of her meal into the fire. “Here, mom.” She muttered, offering it to Melinoe. Why Greek gods would want burnt food, she didn’t want to know.
She had to sit with Nico at the cabin’s table. Most of the other tables were at least halfway full, but two tables only had one kid at them. A boy with black hair sat alone, and another boy wearing gold glasses sat alone. Nico kept staring at her.
“What ghost did you transform into, when Mormo was attacking?” He asked, out of the blue.
“I don’t know. I just turn into whatever ghost has haunted a person. I don’t even know who it is.” Denise shrugged her shoulders and picked at her food.
“Could you maybe turn into it again?” Nico cautiously questioned.
“Uh, okay.” Denise closed her eyes and recalled what she had done. She created the illusion that her eyes were a lighter brown, and she had a bit more freckles.
Nico’s eyes were downcast. He muttered one word. “Bianca.”
Since Nico looked upset, Denise turned back into her normal self. Though, it didn't seem to help. He kept gawking at her.
"I always wondered why her ghost was restricted." He muttered to himself. "But now I found her spirit."

Notes

It's weird. In my other story, I have no ideas at all. But, in this one, I can't help but write nearly every single day. Oh well.
