Child of Athena

VIII

Sophie rarely ever interacted with her half sister, Annabeth Chase. She was always too busy, with quests, prophecies, her boyfriend, Percy.
But this time, Annabeth approached her. "Hey, Sophie. Chiron didn't tell me the prophecy. He said to ask you."
Sophie was a bit flustered. Why didn't Chiron just tell Annabeth? Never mind that, she took a deep breath and searched her memory for the prophecy. "The sun god made the first mistake, but not the last. Eternal vows will not be kept. Ghosts will haunt the third’s past. Forgotten wisdom shall take the final step. One's foe is the other's friend. Battle scars will never mend. Dragon, owl, spirit shall meet. Sun will take its rightful seat. That's basically it."
Annabeth nodded. "Thanks, Sophie." She strolled off and Sophie presumed worked on her algebra.
“Hey, Cassidy?” She asked her half sister. “How would you convert Ax+By=C into y=mx+b?”
“Oh, yeah.” She explained the concept to her, and then went off with her boyfriend, Mark. Sophie sighed and finished her worksheet alone.
Once she was done, Sophie tapped her pencil, and began to brainstorm. A lightbulb went off in her brain, and she jotted down the prophecy.
Sophie wrote down all of her ideas. The sun god being Apollo, wisdom meaning Athena, and she began to think of other points.
Dragon, owl, spirit. Those sounded like gods' sacred animals maybe. Ares, Athena, Melinoe. Sophie wondered about the new camper. Ghosts will haunt the third's past. Ghosts! Melinoe was the goddess of ghosts.
Sophie jumped up, nearly knocking over the table in the process. Hugo was sitting near her, reading Of Mice and Men. “What?” He exclaimed, probably noticing the excited look in her eyes.
“I figured something out.” And with that vague proclamation, Sophie rushed towards Cabin Thirteen.
“Nico!” She yelped as she banged on the shut door. Nico di Angelo swung the door open and scowled.
“What?” He asked sourly, then realized it was Sophie. “Oh, hi… um…” He had forgotten her name.
“Sophie.”
“Yeah. Hi. Why are you knocking on my door?”
Sophie took a deep breath. “Where’s Denise?”
Nico just stared at her. “With Blake. Why?”
Sophie just shook her head, and rushed off. Blake was the son of Ares. Perfect.
Once she was done talking to Denise, she had to find Chiron, and tell him everything. Denise had to go on a quest. The prophecy had been found at the right time. Apollo was still in trouble. The prophecy claimed that he would be redeemed. Sun will take its rightful seat.
“Denise!” She spotted the new girl. She had dark brown hair, and was already sporting a Camp Half-Blood shirt. Denise was chatting with Blake, the son of Ares.
“Hm?” Denise spun around at the yell of her name. Sophie ran up to her and smiled.
“Hi, you must be the new camper. I’m Sophie, daughter of Athena.” She introduced herself. Blake just nodded, remembering her probably from Capture the Flag.
“Uh, hi. I’m Denise, daughter of Melinoe.” Sophie just stared. Denise looked awfully familiar.
“Do I know you from somewhere?” Blake shifted uncomfortably, and Denise’s deep brown eyes widened.
“I get that a lot. Though, I might look like somebody you knew.” Denise inhaled loudly. “I’m the spirit of Maria di Angelo.”

Notes

Oh, no! Maria had looked an awful lot like Bianca, except for maybe her eyes...

Oops, cliffhanger. I'll update soon enough though.
