The Original Character Court

Morgan O'Connor

Submitted by: canterberrybells
Basics

Name: Morgan O'Connor
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Birthday: October 5th
Ethnicity: Irish
Hair color: Strawberry Blonde
Eye color: Green
Height: 5 feet
[flat?]
Weight: 123 lbs
Other physical descriptions: She is small, but not necessarily skinny. She has freckles all over her body. On her left shoulder blade, she has a birthmark shaped like a maple leaf.

She has two scars: one on the palm of her right hand and a burn scar on her left leg. Both of these were acquired during the same incident. When she was younger, around twelve years old, her stepmother took her to the United States via boat (she was mortal and unaware of the existence of sea monsters). When the boat was attacked, the window in Morgan's room shattered and she cut her hand on a shard of glass. Later, when trying to escape, the boat had caught fire. She and her stepmother had run through a burning corridor to get to the life boats. Morgan's pant leg caught fire and burned her from her foot to the middle of her calf before she was able to out the fire out.
[good job]
Sexual orientation: Demisexual
[hello representation. You're always welcome.]
[For those who don't know, demisexual means that a person doesn't feel sexual attraction towards another unless they've formed a strong emotional bond with someone.]

Personality
Positive traits: She is intuitive, primarily when concerning events or happenings. She can usually tell when something bad is going to happen. She is creative and intelligent, often thinking outside the box instead of taking rational or formerly thought of approaches to things, though logical thought is not uncommon for her. She is also very driven when it comes to her goals and wants and will stop at nothing to get them.
[Did you check MBTI? Because this is a very good description. Good job.]

Negative traits: She is impulsive and often does things that she can't give reasoning for. She has a fiery nature to her and can be a bit temperamental at times, and can be a bit childish. She's a sore loser. She is very aspiring with her abilities and, at times, can almost seem power hungry. She's a bit arrogant as well. She also has a habit of blaming herself for instances, such as she blames herself for not being able to safe her stepmother. She can also be easily swayed when given the opportunity to gain more of something she's striving for - she was never good with temptation.
[Balances out with the positive. Doesn't clash. Instead, they support each other. Especially the intuitive-impulsive bit since most intuitive people have a tendency to be impulsive, especially if they're extroverts.]

Other personality traits: She can be absentminded and doesn't always pay attention when people are talking - she is sometimes forgetful because of this. She's often seen as unintelligent and ditsy. She has a sarcastic sense of humor and can be a bit condescending at times. She can also be very indecisive and often times has trouble making important decisions and choices.
[Also supports the positive and negative traits.]

Fears/Phobias:
Thalassophobia. She is afraid of the sea (boats in particular) due to the boat she was on being attacked my a sea monster. This phobia also encompasses her fear of drowning as that is how her stepmother died. Her father drowned a few years prior when the fishing vessel he was on got caught in a storm and capsized.
[yikes. Makes sense.]

She is also afraid of fire, though her fear level for it is nowhere near her fear level of the sea.

She is also afraid of frogs.
[Is there a special reason? Or is it just because frogs are disgusting. I'll accept this, though.]

Fatal Flaw: Greed. She has a greed for power and often times will sacrifice her own health and safety to gain it. This greed, while coming from a noble cause (she was powerless to save her stepmother and doesn't want it to happen again), often causes her to lose track of things and she can be easily swayed by those who promise her such power.
[Ah. Reminds me of Vergil from Devil May Cry. This is good. It makes sense and it was well-explained. I'm impressed.]

Family and Background
Godly Parent: Hecate
[Amazing.]
Mortal Parent: Collin O'Connor
Other relationships:
Fiona O'Connor: Fiona was her stepmother, whom she truly believed to be her real mother, until she was claimed by Hecate. She was very close to her, especially after the death of her father. When she died, she was absolutely devastated and blamed herself for not being able to save her.

Collin O'Conner: He was her father whom she was also very close to. He was a fantasy writer/poet and a fisherman who was deeply infatuated with the idea of magic and magical beings (which is how he caught Hecate's attention). He died when she was ten due to an accident during one of his fishing trips. His death was heartbreaking for her, but she was able to move past it since she had her stepmother around to help her back onto her feet.

Annabeth Chase: She is neutral when it comes to Annabeth, though her intelligence makes her uncomfortable, as she feels like Annabeth can figure out what she's thinking, which is something she doesn't like as she has secrets to hide.
[Yikes. It's very in character for Annabeth. And I like your description. It's unique since a lot of OCs tend to make them buddy-buddy.]

Nico di Angelo: Due to her mother's close relationship with Hades and Persephone, she is not bothered by Nico as much as the rest of the campers, however, even with her intuition, she can't always read him or understand him and she doesn't exactly trust him because of this.
[Huzzah. Thank you. This is great. Like the others, well-explained.]

Jason Grace: She does not like Jason due to the fact that she thinks he is too perfect. His serious demeanor throws her off and she finds him difficult to read and understand.
[Jason is severely underrated but your explanation makes sense. He does seem too perfect but it's because of how he's brought up. Good job.]

Piper McLean: Due to Piper's down to earth demeanor and how perceptive of people's emotions she is, Morgan sees her as a good listener and a good person to turn to for advice. She is also the one who found her in the streets of New York and led her to Camp Half-Blood.

Leo Valdez: She has mixed feeling concerning Leo. Sometimes she finds him funny and tolerable and other times she finds him extremely annoying. She especially doesn't like it when he makes jokes at her expense. Due to the burn she received from her trip to America, his fire powers make her uncomfortable.
[Hallelujah. A realistic interaction with Leo.]

Gaea: Due to how easily influenced she can be when it comes to the promise of power, she struggles constantly against Gaea's attempts to get her to join her side. She dislikes the goddess, and fears her, but the desire for power sometimes over shadows that fear.
[oookay. Here's where I'm a little iffy with the timeline. I'll reserve judgement until the backstory.]

Lou Ellen: Lou is her half sister who helps her to learn the basics of controlling the mist and using magic. They aren't exactly close, but Lou does try to help her when she needs it.

Backstory:
Born in Dublin, Ireland, her father named her after the Celtic goddess, the MorrĂgan, whom he considered to be the Celtic version of Hecate as she was often described as a trio of individuals, who is sometimes the Triple-Faced Goddess. She was also named so as the MorrĂgan was often associated with death, magic, and prophecy, all of which are attributes of Hecate.
[Yes, that is true. Whoa. Someone who did her research. Amazing. I always found the similarities among mythologies fascinating.]

She lost her father when she was ten when the fishing vessel he was on capsized and he drowned. Two years later, when she was twelve, her stepmother decided to move to America. Because she feared planes, Fiona took a boat across the ocean. The ship was attacked by a sea monster who sensed Morgan's presence (Fiona was completely unaware of the fact that Morgan was a demigod; she only knew that Morgan wasn't her child). Fiona, in her attempt to escape the ship with Morgan, was hit in the head by a falling handrail and fell of the ship. Morgan jumped in after her, but she wasn't able to find her. Devastated, Morgan climbed into a life boat.
[holy crap. That's traumatizing.]

Her mother, Hecate, helped her then by sending her to New York while she was sleeping. When she woke, she had no idea where she was or how she'd gotten there over night and she had nothing with her but a strange dagger and the clothes she'd been wearing. Since all of her family lived in Ireland, she had nowhere to go. She spent two years living in the streets of Manhattan before Piper and Leo, who were on their way to meet Annabeth somewhere, stumbled across her when she was trying to escape a cyclops. They helped her kill it and then escorted her to Camp Half-Blood.
[I'm guessing that this happens in the time between TLH and SoN. Okay. Canon timeline is intact.]

Combat-related questions
Camp: Camp Half-Blood
Weapon of choice: Close combat is not her specialty and not her favored way of fighting, however, she does have a weapon which was given to her by her mother when she arrived in America.

Hilt is silver with a small moonstone in the center of the pommel. He handle is wrapped in soft leather. The blade is double edged celestial bronze. Her name is inscribed on the blade in Greek. Its sheath is solid black with a silver torch on each side.

The blade holds no powers, though it glows pale orange in the dark.
[I'm assuming that's to give light.]
Powers and Abilities: Being the daughter of Hecate, she has the ability to use magic and control the Mist. She can create illusions, false memories, disguise people, and hide locations and objects, and she can use Mistforms, however, she is not very skilled in that and the most she could do before arriving at Camp Half-Blood was use the mist to hide herself. Once she reached the camp, her half-sister Lou Ellen helped her to learn how to use her abilities, though it took some time before she was able to learn how to use it properly without tiring herself out.

She also inherited prophetic abilities from her mother. As a result, she can sense and sometimes see several possible futures, but she can not foretell the events leading up to them - she can only see various outcomes. This is a power she can't control and the visions come and go as they please. She can sense a shift in the future, such as when a certain choice is made or an event finished, and see the possibilities that stem from that, but she cannot predict the event that actually causes the change. Because of how easily the future changes, she can't give definite answers and her predictions are not always accurate.
[good job nuking this.]

Hecate made her swear on the Styx to keep this ability a secret as it would be a powerful asset in the hands of the enemy. [true.]

Until she was claimed, she'd only experienced using this power twice. The day her father died, she'd gotten the feeling that something bad was going to happen. It happened again right before the sea monster attacked her. After she was claimed, she started experiencing it more often.

Comments:
Everything was well-explained. Nothing to unrealistic. Good job. I don't have anything bad to say.

Final judgement: Isles of the Blessed
