It's A Jungle Out There

When I woke up, I was dry. When I stepped out of my tent, my feet squished into the ground. Jilee was still sleeping, so I packed my tent back up, and dug around in my bag until I found the half of a sandwich I'd saved from the restaurant the previous day, and was pleased to find it still tasted good. But when I slammed the trunk door closed, Jilee shot up in the front seat, like she had been electrocuted. She tumbled out of the car, and when she stood up, she was holding a small purple hand-held mirror, but when she tapped the back of it, little dagger blades came whirling out on all sides of it. She threw it at a tree, and the dagger mirror scraped against it, making a deep gash, and then came back to her, but the blades had retracted, and Jilee caught it safely. "Where are the monsters?!" she yelled, then seemed to notice me standing there, hand on the trunk where I had pushed it down. Jilee smoothed down her pencil skirt.
"Well then. Get in the car, Camp Half-Blood isn't far away, but I'll have time to explain everything."



"A demigod? Like in the myths?!'
"Pretty much. Did you hear anything else I said?"
I nodded, having taken it all in.
Jilee pulled up at a hill, with a big pine, Thalia's Pine, as Jilee had told me.
"I was there the night Thalia died... I watched as she came across the border."
I shivered at the thought. I slid out of the car, and took my bag out of the car. I don't know why, but I just started running. And I started laughing, I was laughing like a mad woman. I fell to the ground laughing, tears in my eyes, tears of I-don't-know-what. I hiked up my bag, and was walking up to the pine when I heard a low growl, and Jilee came up from behind me and clamped a hand over my mouth before I could scream.
"Be nice, Peleus, she's new."
Jilee seemed shaky, as if me screaming could be the end of the world.
"Remember what I told you Leila? If you don't scare a dragon, they won't hurt you."
